Honda Civic 2012 Review

When the previous-generation Civic arrived in 2006, the swept-back windshield and the futuristic styling were breath-taking .What we see for 2012 is a careful evolution of the past Civic. All the new changes—the longer hood, the sculpted bumpers, and the larger taillights—make the Civic look more conventional than before.The aerodynamics have also been improved. Honda claims a lower coefficient of drag because of a smaller grille opening and a flat underbody.

Inside, the Civic has the same two-tier instrument display with the digital speedometer above the analog tachometer. Like the exterior, the interior is familiar yet new. Plastic quality has improved slightly, and there is new design with  rice-paper-like graining on the door panels. Thinner A-pillars aid forward visibility, and new seats feel more supportive—mercifully, they have less-intrusive lumbar support. A new five-inch display is standard on all models above the most basic DX trim level. With the “intelligent Multi-Information Display,” the screen sits to the right of the speedometer and gives trip computer, audio, clock, and  navigation information.

 The sedan’s 105.1-inch wheelbase is now 1.2 inches shorter, rear legroom has increased by 1.6 inches. Overall length, height, and width all remain unchanged, but the Civic feels wider and more spacious inside. Honda claims shoulder room has increased by nearly three inches. According to the EPA, the new Civic sedan has 94.7 cubic feet of space inside. That works out to about four more than in last year’s car.

Large impacts are absorbed by a unibody structure that is slightly more rigid. Not only is it stiffer, but it’s also slightly lighter than before. The greatest weight loss, 58 pounds, occurs in the EX-L sedan. Other versions are between 20 and 55 pounds lighter than they were last year.

Modifications to the electric power steering include a slower ratio and a rack that is more rigidly mounted. Compared with its predecessor, the new Civic turns into corners with less authority, which adds to the car’s larger feel. The electric power steering is very numb, providing less feedback than before. Overall, the car’s stiffer body, increased sound deadening, and sleepier steering are more about maturity than playfulness.

Buyers seeking even higher fuel-economy  numbers will want to consider the hybrid model or the new Civic HF. Available only as a sedan with the automatic, the HF adds lightweight aerodynamic wheels, a small trunklid spoiler, a few more underbody panels, and extremely low-rolling-resistance tires that bump highway fuel economy to 41 mpg; the city number rises by 1 mpg, to 29.

Pricing for the 2012 Civic is largely unchanged from the 2011 model’s. The cheapest version, the DX coupe, starts at $16,355; its sedan counterpart starts $200 higher at $16,555. The LX adds important items such as A/C, power locks, and cruise control, as well as $2050 to the sticker of both the coupe and sedan. For $20,455 (coupe) or $21,255 (sedan), the EX heaps a sunroof, an upgraded stereo, and another 12-volt power outlet on top of the LX. (EX coupes are available with the manual, but EX sedans only come with the automatic.) Another $1500 nets an EX with nav—and removes the option of a stick in the coupe—and $1450 more gets an EX-L—L for leather. If you want nav and leather, it’s going to set you back $24,205 for a coupe or sedan.

Toyota Camry 2012 Review

Toyota camry is one of the best selling cars in the world and in US .The 2012 camry has got minor changes. Starting with the exteriors  the size of the grill has reduced and the Toyota logo has come down which makes it look sporty.The grill at the bumper has also been modified and is now subdivided into three parts.The design connects the middle part with the headlights which looks perfect.The head lights have become compact to give the front of the car a superb look.The back of the car looks totally changed. The taillights look stylish but at the same time they give a feeling of perfection and amazing design.The interiors are more interesting than the exteriors. Toyota has adopted a new “floating” instrument panel design with fine stitching that you would find in expensive cars.The steering wheel and the speedometer has also seen a significant changes.The controls on the steering wheel have been organised in a better manner and the speedometer looks more jazzy now.The SE model comes with steering wheel mounted paddle shifters along with larger wheels and tires.  Camry  has firm suspension tuning and, with the V6, a smooth, powerful engine.The engine operates smoothly with little noise. The base engine, a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder, produces 178 horsepower and is offered  with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Toyota says that the engine and transmission combine for an average 25 m.p.g. in town and 35 m.p.g. in highway driving. The hybrid produces 200 horsepower with the same engine and Toyota says that model will return 40 m.p.g. around town. The SE has a 3.5-liter V-6 producing 268 horsepower. Mileage  for the V-6 are 21 m.p.g. city, 30 m.p.g. highway.The car comes in eight variants namely  L ,LE ,XLE ,SE ,Hybrid LE ,Hybrid XLE.The price of the car shows a remarkable result which is shown in the table-

Renault Duster- Review

New in the market the Duster tries to compete with it's rivals.Sitting inside one feels that the seats are comfortable and spacious.Four to five people can sit comfortably.The chrome grills and the headlights gives it a bold look all together.The SUV is not behind in it's length too 4315 mm long and 1822mm wide makes one fell of owning a big car.The DUSTER logo chrome plate at the back gives a classic look although the taillights are not that impressive.The 475 litres boot space at  the back is worth mentioning.The rear AC vents makes no difference for the passengers sitting at the back or in the front.There is a storage space in the centre to keep a mobile phone which is handy while driving.The audio controls are placed at the back of the steering wheel which is different.This gives a feeling of paddle shifts of a sports car.The duster comes in three varients.The 1.6 litre petrol   that gives 104 PS at 5850rpm and 145 Nm  torque at 3750rpm comes with a five speed manual transmission.The other two are the varients of the diesel engine one gives 85PS and the other 110PS. Both diesel varients come with 6 speed manual transmission.The car seems fairly quiet while driving.The weight of the SUV is carefully balanced weighing less than 1300 kg which gives it a edge in fuel efficiency. Renault claims that the petrol varient offers a mileage of 13.4 kmpl and the 85PS, 110PS diesel gives 20.45 kmpl and 19.0 kmpl respectively.

            The ride is comfortable thanks to the   MacPherson struts in front and  torsion beams at the back that make the car go smooth even on bumpy roads.One drawback is that the steering wheel is slightly heavy.The DUSTER all together majors in handling and gives a good performance.

       The DUSTER has been priced quite attractively  for the Indian market by a European manufacturer and is value for money .It aims to dust out(wipe out) it’s competitors as the name suggests. Starting at just 7.19 lakh (ex show room ) it sets a new bench mark to domestic SUV manufacturer.The top end diesel model is priced at 11.40 lakh.
