Audi R8

The Audi R8 a two-seater with an aluminium spaceframe into the middle of which is bolted
a high-revving petrol engine. The replacement gearbox is a compact, albeit
slightly heavier (by 15kg) twin-clutch, seven-speed unit that can shift between
ratios in the blink of an eye. The traditional six-speed manual is also
available on all models. All the models now feature LED lights, and the rear
indicators sweep rather than merely blink. It's simple but surprisingly
effective.In the cabin the
upgrades are equally as subtle, with splashes of chrome around the dials and
more extensive leather trim on the dash.
The engine range also remains as before,
with V8 and V10 models offered, both petrol and both naturally aspirated. Audi
predicts that 82 per cent of R8 buyers will tick the option box for the £2,900
S-tronic gearbox because on paper at least, it makes the car both faster (by
0.3sec from 0-62mph) and cleaner (the CO2 figure drops by about 40g/km compared
with the manual gearbox). The 4.2-litre V8 kicks things off with
424bhp, 0-62mph in 4.6sec, a 188mph top speed, 19.9mpg on the EU Combined cycle
and 332g/km of CO2. Upgrade to the 5.2-litre V10 and power increases to 518bhp,
which means 0-62mph in 3.9sec, 197mph, 19.0mpg and 346g/km.
As with previous R8s, the hydraulically
assisted steering is beautifully weighted and offers a stream of feedback to
the driver, helping you soon become at ease with the size and performance of
what had the potential to be an intimidating machine. A few laps on track
reinforce this impression, with the R8 Plus proving more stable and predictable
than a 550bhp, mid-engined supercar has any right to be. The V10 Plus is a wonderful car, then, and a fitting flagship for the range. However, what's
almost more impressive about the R8 is that as you move down through the
models, or over into the Spyder, you don't feel like you lose anything. Of
course the V8 doesn't have quite the same mid-range punch as the V10, but it
still sounds wonderful and is faster than most people would ever need.
No matter the model, the R8 isn't what
you'd call a super torque car. The V8 model has 317 pound feet of torque and
the V10 cars make just under 400 pound feet. But higher up in the rev range,
they produce a good bit of power. The V8 cars have 430 horsepower, the V10 has
525, and the V10 Plus cranks out 550 horse power, which gets it to 60 in 3.5
seconds. The audi r8 starts at $114,000(price) which is relatively lower than other cars with which it competes.

1:
Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System
In: Audi
It's one thing to garner a favourable
review of a system for an enthusiast publication, but winning an international
award is quite another matter. The impressive setup consists of 14 speakers
(including a 12-inch subwoofer), each with its own amplifier. Altogether, the
remarkable system produces nearly 1,100 Watts. The car's cool character and the
system's strengths play well with Dave Brubeck's Time Out, here sounding as
fresh as ever.
2:
Mark Levinson Reference Surround Sound Audio System
In: Lexus
With total harmonic distortion
(THD) of less than 0.1%, the 19-speaker, 450-Watt Mark Levinson Reference
(7.1-channel) Surround Sound Audio System is a compelling reason to let someone
else drive while you experience the best quality music. You’re not likely to
miss a single note because the system has a range of 20 to 20,000 Hz -- beyond
the hearing range of some people.
3:
Bowers & Wilkins System
In: Jaguar XF
Jaguar is offering a Bowers
& Wilkins 440 Watt, surround sound system with 13 speakers, plus a
subwoofer. Since B&W speakers are the reference-quality choice of serious
audiophiles, and even recording studios, you'd best not waste them on any old
soundtrack.
4:
Harman/Kardon LOGIC7 Digital Surround Sound System
In: Mercedes-Benz CL-Class
For the privileged few who
will pilot these $100,000-plus machines, Beethoven's beautiful, inspiring
Symphony sounds its best on an nice
drive while played through the CL's Harman/Kardon LOGIC7 Digital Surround Sound
System. The precision-tuned package delivers 600 Watts and features 14,
perfectly placed speakers. It produces some of the most realistic, dynamic
range you've experienced in a car.
5:
Bose 5.1 Cabin Surround Sound System
In: Cadillac CTS
Cadillac has
gone from being the punching bag of the luxury car industry to a force that's reclaiming
a healthy share of its former glory. We'll concentrate on the Bose 5.1 Cabin
Surround Sound System. Its 10 speakers may come up short of other systems in
quantity, but don't equate that to the quality. Unlike some Bose-labeled
factory systems that have disappointed, this is worthy of the name, delivering
the accurate fullness and range associated with the brand. It matches nicely
with the diverse collection of well-mastered tracks on Synchronicity from
6:
Dynaudio Audio System
In: Volvo
The Volvo S80 features
a setup built in collaboration with Danish firm Dynaudio for an impressive
package of 12 speakers -- each with its own filter -- and 650 Watts .You can't
help but be impressed by the reproduction, regardless of where you're sitting. It's
an improvement over past systems, but still uncharacteristically complicated.
7:
THX II Audio System
In: Lincoln
The
theater experience in the Lincoln MKX crossover is based on more than just the
rear-seat DVD player. It handles bass as
efficiently as other ranges and requires little to no fiddling to get it right;
it's why the 14-speaker, 600 Watt system is best experienced with a soundtrack
like Kanye West's Graduation.
8:
Rockford Fosgate Audio System
In: Mitsubishi Lancer
Evolution
Mitsubishi's Lancer and
Rockford Fosgate have each been dismissed as being more exuberant performers
than precision players in their respective fields. The 650 Watt, nine-speaker
system includes an enclosed 10-inch subwoofer in the trunk and is surprisingly
adept at handling crisp highs without sounding hollow. Unlike some other
factory systems, the speed-sensitive volume and equalization work very well
also.
9:
Boston Acoustics/Kicker SRT
Available in: Chrysler
Chrysler recognizes the broad appeal of the 300C and wisely
offers systems to satisfy multiple generations. Rarely do 368 Watts, seven
speakers and a subwoofer produce such full sound If you don't roll that way,
but still like the car, go for the hotter 300C SRT8.The 13-speaker, 322-Watt
Kicker surround sound system with a 100-Watt subwoofer.
10:
Bose Media System
In: Ferrari
Some sports car purists insist a Ferrari's sound
system begins and ends with its engine. Ferrari has even
hidden audio systems behind retractable covers in some cars. It may not be
pretty, but it does centralize the infotainment features and was developed with
the car's interior in mind. Because they were born in the same area and will
forever be known for the notes they hit, it's only right to enjoy this car and
system with Pavarotti’s final work.

BMW M3 (Convertible and Sedan)
21:54
No comments

The BMW 3 Series has long been regarded as the benchmark compact sport coupe. the letter M stands for the company's Motorsports performance division.Since its launch in 1986, the BMW M3 has earned recognition from it’s owners, reviewers and even it’s competitors. As per Driving is considered it offers long distance comfort as well as the everyday riding pleasure.
The 2013 model marks the closing of a chapter in the car’s history. The current model, launched in 2008, comes with a 4.0-liter V-8, rated at 414 horsepower and that is simply wonderful. In the currently available Coupe and Convertible variants comes a engine that sounds as good as it feels when you hop on the accelerator. This engine goes away in 2014, replaced by a more fuel-efficient turbocharged six-cylinder.
The coupe can sprint from 0-60 mph in just 4.8 seconds, while the Convertible takes almost six seconds to reach the same speed. Either car is available with a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch M-DCT gearbox, which is a great for those who love to drive but also have to face traffic on their daily route.
The M3 has added up a few pounds but handling remains excellent. The suspension delivers a firm and a comfortable ride. The steering lacks some of the feel of earlier M3 variants, but it’s still very good and allows for precise positioning. Brakes are another strong point, delivering excellent pedal feel and returning impressively short stopping distances.
M3s also get specific hardware upgrades such as more powerful brakes, stiffer suspension tuning and a specialized limited-slip rear differential. As expected a full range of airbags is standard, as is electronic stability control, traction control and rollover hoops in convertible models.A new-generation M3 comes in 2013 with a smaller-capacity (six-cylinder) engine with turbochargers. So the current BMW M3 is one of the last opportunities to own one of these legendary cars powered by a normally aspirated engine.BMW hasn’t replaced the E46 CSL, the current M3 considerably quicker than the six-cylinder CSL.
The Coupe sits low to the ground on a set of 19-inch M light-alloys designed to allow maximum airflow around the brake rotors, and one of several features included in the Competition Package. The super light carbon-fibre roof, which was a key feature of the CSL, is now standard fitment on this fourth-generation E92 M3. It effectively lowers the centre of gravity and shaves five kilos off the weight of the car.
Apart from the side skirts, front apron and split rear diffuser, the overall body panels are clean and uncluttered, but the characteristic gills on the front side panels of the M3 remain the same which signify that it belongs to the ‘M’ family.
The special ‘M’ plate on the door sills either, or the embossed ‘M’ in the hand stitched M sport leather steering wheel gives it a fine lookThis is what an M3 is all about, all the right equipment for exceptional driver control. The interior trim isn’t fancy, but it’s practical and uncluttered. There is no lack of comforts in the M3; this is the best you can get in this price range. The Adaptive Bi-Xenon headlights, Comfort Access System, Park Distance Control , High Beam Assist with auto rain sensors, as well as all the latest iDrive system , which is very easy to operate and thoroughly intuitive. While Bluetooth phone connectivity is standard on the M3. Bluetooth streaming for music is not yet available on the M3. However, there is a USB interface for iPhone/MP3 connection For such a focused performance machine, the M3 offers an inordinate level of practicality far greater than the likes of Porsche’s 911 coupe. There’s plenty room for two adults in the individualised rear seats, and there is a good deal of legroom.
Press the Start button and the four-litre V8 fires up before settling down to a more subdued engine note. Push the accelerator and you’ll find the mighty 4.0-litre V8 spinning out 8300rpm.
Standard fit on the M3 is a six-speed manual box. More importantly, the M double-clutch option will get you from 0-100km/h in a blistering 4.6 seconds, down from 4.8 seconds for the manual.
Up ahead, there’s some clear road so flick the miniature ‘M’ shifter to the right, engaging manual mode, and drop the throttle for a taste of what this engine has to offer. It’s not just the sound of that V8 winding up that sounds the goods; it’s more those instant race-style shifts that will have you begging for more.
There’s a reasonable level of compliance in the suspension, which provides a firm but entirely comfortable ride for passengers, and bumps are dispensed with without any harshness through the body.
At 8200rpm the gearshifts are impossibly quick, yet remarkably smooth.
There’s no such thing as body roll with an M3 either, and it doesn’t seem to matter how sharp you turn in, or how hard you push, the M3 sits bolt upright through the bends at all times.
.Driving an M3 is a special kind of experience. The starting price which is around $61,000 for the coupe or $69,000 for the convertible is what to expect with all the features and the comfort one gets riding the car.

Audi Q5 (Allroad Vehicle)

The Q5 is the Audi for those who want a mid-sized car but prefer an elevated driving position and enhanced ability in slippery conditions like snow or sand. The model competes with Land Rover Freelander 2, BMW X3 and Volvo XC60.The petrol options are two varients of 2.0 TFSI, the more powerful of which gets the a seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch gearbox, as do the 3.2-litre petrol V6 and the diesel 3.0-litre V6.The hood and wrap-around tailgate are now made of aluminium to save weight. The 2013 Audi Q5 is very similar to the 2012 Audi Q5. However, there are some noteworthy cosmetic changes, and under the hood Audi has fitted more efficient engines and has upgraded the steering and suspension.
The new look of the front grille is the easiest way to spot the new Q5 apart from the older one and at the same time there are also new bumpers and exhaust tailpipes, and new LEDs for the optional xenon headlights. The new upgraded engine offers up 15% better fuel economy and 11% lower CO2 emissions.
Bluetooth connectivity and cruise control are now standard for all models. The Q5's steering and suspension changes are minor but effective. the Q5 steers more smoothly and rides more comfortably than before. Although the ride can be rather bouncy over rough surfaces, the Q5 generally does a good job.
The handling is excellent while the steering is more consistently weighted than before and provides a decent amount of feedback through the wheel. The 2.0 TFSI 225 is usefully flexible, but it's more expensive than the cheapest 2.0 TDI version, emits 20g/km more CO2 (with a manual gearbox). As for the fuel-conscious folks, the 2013 Audi Q5 will now be available as a hybrid too. It’s equipped with the 211PS 2.0 TFSI inline-4 coupled to a 54hp electric motor drawing power from lithium-ion batteries located at the rear. Joined together by a clutch, the engine and electric motor deliver power to the wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox and quattro all-wheel drive. The Q5 Hybrid can travel 3.04km in pure electric mode.
Now coming to the interiors apart from some extra metallic trim and a different choice of leather upholstery(optional), there's little that distinguishes it from its predecessor and that is great because it is practical and classy. The Q5's MMI infotainment control system isn't as user-friendly as it is in some of Audi's other models this is due to the location of its controls low down on the centre console.
Dynamically, the Q5 feels more accommodating than ever. It has added directness to the steering, a more settled ride and, thanks to standard four-wheel drive, tenacious grip and impressive levels of traction whatever the weather conditions. The new Q5 is expected to be priced around $ 38,000 for the base model.

BMW i8 Concept Spyder

After successful initial testing of the concept vehicle, the decision
for a production vehicle was quickly made. The BMW i8 Concept Spyder is the future of
the BMW vision EfficientDynamics concept and what we get is the
the most efficient and innovative sports car of its time. A sneak peek of the
concept car was featured in Mission Impossible 4 in which the car was driven by
Tom Cruise .The car looked stunning and some of it’s concept features were
shown. Its innovative plug-in hybrid concept combines the electric drive system from the BMW i3 Concept
– fitted over its front axle – with a high-performance three-cylinder
combustion engine producing 164 kW/220 hp and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) at the rear.
Working together, they allow the two drive systems to work at full potential,
thus delivering the performance of a sports car but at the same time fuel
consumption of a small car.
Speed 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) is achieved under five seconds combined
with fuel consumption in the European cycle of 2.7 litres per 100 kilometres
(approx. 104 mpg imp) are figures currently beyond the capability of any
vehicle powered by a combustion engine of comparable performance. With the
eDrive technology and its large lithium-ion battery, which can be charged from
a domestic power supply, the BMW i8 Concept Spyder can travel up to 35 kilometres
(approx. 20 miles) on electric power alone. Now coming to the seating, the 4 seater offers enough space for four people making it practical for everyday
use.
It has a pair of electric scooters placed under a transparent
tailgate, a camera-based proactive collision warning feature, and the inside of
the car can be pre-warmed on a cold morning so it's all cozy and warm when you
go on a drive.
The LifeDrive architecture of the BMW i8 Spyder delivers extreme performance
and superb driving dynamics. The motor in the front axle module and combustion
engine at the rear are connected by an "energy tunnel", which houses
the high-voltage battery thus giving the car a low centre of gravity and this brings
with it improved dynamics. The engineering behind the weight is incredible. The positioning
of the electric motor and engine over their respective axles and the
space-saving and well-balanced packaging of all components results in a optimal
50/50 weight distribution.

Top 5 iPhone Apps For Your Car
00:10
1 comment
1.iGasUp
Fuel prices have become a point of concern recently. As recently as November 2011, the price of crude oil topped $100. But no matter how bad gas prices get, you can always find the lowest prices, no matter where you are, with iGasUp.For just $2.99, iPhone users can download the iGasUp application and have updated gas station locations and fuel prices at their fingertips. The app gives users the 10 closest gas stations based on the phone's current location. iGasUp uses information derived from Oil Price Information Service (OPIS) the same entity that provides price data for AAA, Sirius Satellite Radio and GPS companies such as Garmin.
2.Trapster
This app gives you freedom from speed traps. If you have an iPhone, you won't have to rely on these visual signals from other drivers. With Trapster, you can scan your area for any known speed traps, police hang outs, speed cameras and even stop-light cameras.Trapster displays your location on a map using the iPhone's WiFi location capabilities. Reported speed traps, which users enter into the Trapster's network database, pop up along your route. Trapster's settings allow users to setup their iPhones to give voice alerts of approaching speed traps and the dynamic radar feature compensates for a driver's speed and direction in radar to relay accurate warnings. Signal cameras and police traps show up on the display as icons for easy recognition.
3.INRIX Traffic
Even if your car has a GPS with built-in traffic information, you might find that the INRIX Traffic app can help you plan your route in ways that your GPS can't. To access the more advanced route-planning services that the INRIX Traffic app offers, you'll need to pay $24.99 to upgrade to INRIX Traffic premium, but even the basic free app gives you a sufficient amount of traffic information for your daily travelling or just for a trip across town.
4.Parker for iPhone
This app helps in parking your car on a busy day very easily. It gives you a rooftop view of the local street situation and tells you where the parking places are. With the cooperation of the Departments of Transportation in several major cities, including New York, Dallas, Los Angeles and Boston, the San Francisco company Streetline has installed electronic sensors in selected neighborhoods to detect whether parking places are occupied or empty. This data is broadcast to a central location and can be accessed via the Parker app.
5.Craftsman Garage Door App
If you have a garage then you have a garage door opener, a remote control device that you can use to open and close your garage door from inside your car or even inside your house. But most garage door openers require that you be somewhere close to the garage before they'll work. Craftsman's garage door opener is different. It will work from any place you can get an iPhone signal.
But you'll need the Craftsman AssureLink Internet Connected DC Chain Drive Garage Door Opener installed on your garage door, and that's going to cost you more than $200. But the app itself is free. It's up to you to decide whether this service is worth the cost to you, but at least the Assure Link Garage Door Opener has other features, such as a keyless entry pad and a 10-year warranty on its motor, even apart from the convenience of the app. And maybe you were already planning to replace your aging garage door hardware.

How Mercedes Benz Logo Originated
07:27
No comments
When the patented name "Mercedes" was registered in September 1902 Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft had a successful brand name but still lacked a characteristic trademark. Then Paul and Adolf Daimler - the company founder’s two sons, and now in charge of the business - remembered that their father had once used a star as a symbol.
Gottlieb Daimler had been technical director of the Deutz gas engine factory from 1872 until 1881. At the beginning of his employment there, he had marked a star above his own house on a picture postcard of Cologne and Deutz, and had written to his wife that this star would one day shine over his own factory to symbolize prosperity.
The DMG board immediately accepted the proposal and in June 1909, both three-pointed and four-pointed stars were registered as trademarks. Although both designs were legally protected, only the three-pointed star was used. From 1910 onwards it began to appear at the front of the cars as a design feature on the radiator.
The three-pointed star was supposed to symbolize Daimler’s ambition of universal motorization – “on land, on water and in the air”. Over the years, various small additions were made. In 1916, the points were surrounded by a circle, in which four small stars and the word Mercedes were integrated, or alternatively the names of the DMG plants at Untertürkheim or Berlin-Marienfelde.
In November 1921, DMG applied for legal protection of utility patents for any new variations on their trademark and lodged with the patent office a three-dimensional three-pointed star enclosed in a circle – which included the design intended for use on the radiator grille. It became a registered trademark in August 1923.
The period of inflation after the First World War meant a difficult time for sales – especially of luxury goods such as passenger cars – and had serious repercussions on the automobile industry. Only financially strong companies with well-established models were able to survive – although even these were forced into mergers and co-operative ventures. It was in this way that the former rivals, DMG and Benz & Cie., formed a syndicate in 1924 in order to standardize design and production, as well as purchasing, sales and advertising, and thereby remain competitive.
During this period, the two firms generally marketed their products jointly, although still under separate trademarks. Two years later, in June 1926, the two oldest motor manufacturers merged to form Daimler-Benz AG.
At this point a new trademark was designed, which brought together the main characteristics of both the existing emblems – the world renowned three-pointed star belonging to Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft was surrounded with its trade name ‘Mercedes’ as well as that of the equally famous name ‘Benz’, whose laurel wreath entwined the two names together.
This trademark, which has changed little over the decades, still adorns Mercedes-Benz vehicles and has come to represent quality and safety on roads everywhere. And throughout the world the name Mercedes-Benz is synonymous with tradition, innovation and the future of the automobile.

6.1994 Acura Integra
7.1999 Chevrolet Pickup (Full Size)
8.2004 Dodge Pickup (Full Size)
9.2002 Ford Explorer
10.1994 Nissan Sentra
The singling out of the 1994
Honda Accord as the most-stolen car in the United States last year isn’t
something new. The 1994 Accord again tops the list, making this it's
fourth consecutive appearance. The 1994 Accord’s lack of security features and its
popularity as the main reasons why the car is so frequently stolen.
Number
two on the list is also a Honda, the 1998 Honda Civic. At No. three is the 2006
Ford F-150 pickup, which is a truck (ranked so high on the most-stolen list)
.Two other full-size pickups, the 1999 Chevrolet pickup and the 2004 Dodge
pickup, came in at position number seven and eight, respectively. The 2002 Ford
Explorer SUV is ranked ninth.
Fourth place belongs to the 1991 Toyota Camry, another best-selling
sedan. Two other sedans, the 1994 Acura Integra and the 1994 Nissan Sentra,
ranked in sixth and 10th place. The Dodge Caravan, the only minivan on the
list, was the fifth most-stolen vehicle last year across the nation.
Aston Martin Vanquish

Vanquish production was ceased in 2007 and while its DBS replacement was more reliable, it never recaptured the Vanquish's glamour quotient. Aston Martin hopes the new Vanquish will generate and bring back the lost glamour. The Vanquish's new interior is amazing, and the main controls on the centre console are now touch sensitive. Fit and finish is classic, although it seems that almost everything really stylish inside this car is a rather costly option. Touch-sensitive glass buttons vibrate when your finger makes contact, while the new Garmin sat-navigation and properly integrated infotainment system are light years ahead of the DBS with its clunky navigation set-up and fussy stereo controls. . No-one can match Aston for interior design and ambience, though the One-77 style ‘quartic' steering wheel and frowning air vents are both an acquired. But the ZF six-speed auto is not as efficient compared to the ultra-fast systems fitted by McLaren orFerrari. The coachwork is sleek and stretched, although all modern Astons look quite similar.
The Vanquish borrows styling from the One-77 supercar. It also gets a pedestrian impact-friendly front, LED rear lamps and a lovely, seamless transition from the rear arches into the roof. A slightly more compact grille is surrounded by a flowing, bare carbon front splitter, bonnet vents and LED running lights, while protruding side strakes extend down the sides. At the rear you’ll find LED tail-lamps inspired by the One-77 and an integrated spoiler that looks more like a sculpture than an aerodynamic aid.
Originally the 5.9-litre V12 was based on two Ford Mondeo V6s, but Aston has reworked on it . There is a 9% increase in power from the DBS to 565bhp and the car has a top speed of 183mph, 0-62 mph in 4.1sec. The rich, multi-layered V12 exhaust note is superb especially when you hit the Sport button on the steering wheel. New launch control also allows you to experience the full 565bhp. Simply push the button marked L/C and move your foot from the brake to full throttle and, after a moment’s pause, the car roars off, with minimum wheel spin and maximum acceleration. A quicker steering ratio means the Vanquish feels more alert, more of the time, while the wheel weights up beautifully as you load up the outside wheel in corners. The most noticeable dynamic change, though, comes from the three-stage adaptive dampers, which give the car a broader character than before. Normal mode is surprisingly supple, rounding off sharp jolts like speed bumps with confidence. Sport mode noticeably firms things up and works well when you’re darting down a smooth country road. Track mode is best left for just that – it’s too firm for normal roads. Despite the full carbon fibre skin, plus carbon on parts of the chassis, the Vanquish only weighs 1kg less than the DBS. Any savings are cancelled out by extras like the new infotainment system and bigger carbon-ceramic brakes. The new Vanquish is priced at £189,995 which is quite expensive for an Aston.
